Creative Director
Born in Kiev, Matthew was drawn to creative work from a young age, with an early eye for visual art and an unusual love of plant life. He went against his family's traditions to pursue a path where he could freely express his creative nature, apprenticing in the New Wave under Joseph Levi and learning modern looks inspired by French Coiffure and Vogue magazines smuggled past the Iron Curtain.
In 1991, dreaming of creative freedom, he emigrated with his father to New York, the city of light. His career began on Madison Avenue with Bruno Pittini, the 90s hair guru who shaped images for fashion icons like Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve and Francoise Hardy.
As Bruno's personal assistant he worked alongside Frederic Fekkai, Jerome Loriot, and Serge Normant. Under Pittini's guidance, Matthew began to explore new ideas in modern hairstyling and adopted the French Technique of hair sculpting - precision he mastered on Madison Avenue. Bianca Jagger, Meryl Streep, Margaux Hemingway and Brooke Shields all sat in his chair during those years.
Escaping the glitz and glamour of Madison Avenue, Matthew opened his first studio in Brooklyn in 2000. The Atelier de Beaute - La Boom Studio is a place where he now devotes his personal attention to artists, musicians, and socialites.
A New Word
noun. A trusted stylist who treats the hair, the head, and the heart.
Long before the word existed, a Russian-language newspaper called Matthew "the psychologist with a comb." He listens. He notices. He works in a quiet room with calming incense and Latin melodies playing low. The cut is precise, but the hour itself is the gift - an unhurried space to think, to laugh, to be heard.

Client Voices
Reviews from clients who have made the trip across boroughs.
La Boom is a very pretty, friendly and stylish establishment. Matthew and his staff always make you feel very comfortable and at ease. I travel from Queens, an hour and a half away, because I simply will not go anywhere else.
Matthew is more than a stylist - he is an artist and, somehow, a therapist too. The space is warm, the music is calm, and the cut is exactly what I asked for and a little better than I imagined. The kind of appointment you actually look forward to.
A small luxury that feels like a unique and personal experience every single time. The space is lit by Edison bulbs, the mirrors are gold, and Matthew clearly cares about what he is doing. My color has never been better.
I have had hair appointments in Paris, Milan and Manhattan, and La Boom holds its own with any of them. Matthew's commitment to client satisfaction is what has made La Boom a notable destination for personalized, high-quality hair care.
Took my eleven year old here for her first real haircut. Matthew was patient, funny and treated her like a queen. The space is full of disco balls and gold mirrors and she asked when we could come back the moment we walked out. A welcoming environment for all ages.
A serene and stylish environment where the craft is real. Matthew worked with my texture rather than against it - the French Technique is not a marketing line here, it is what he actually does. My hair grew out beautifully.
A unique combination of luxury and necessity - an intimate chic boutique where you can restore your spirit and express personal beauty.
By appointment only. Call Matthew and the La Boom team to reserve your session.
